Not sure if anyone is still using the Connect Home Pro or has had a problem and resolved it in the past. I just recently started to use the Connect Home Pro I purchased a long time ago, and it keeps giving me the error code 36-201 and refusing to connect the device to SmartThings. The only suggestion a Samsung 'expert' provided was to reset the device or unplug it to try, but it did not help.

I searched online, and it looks like it's a problem where the device's software is too old and cannot be connected to the SmartThings server.

Wondering if anyone in the forum has had this issue before? And how can this issue be resolved?

Thanks a ton!

Hi Goldenseal,

We appreciate you sharing your experience with the Connect Home Pro and understand how frustrating it can be to encounter persistent setup errors. The error code 36-201 typically indicates a failure in device registration, often due to legacy firmware that is no longer compatible with current SmartThings server protocols.

While resetting or power cycling the device is a standard first step, it may not resolve the issue if the firmware is significantly outdated. In such cases, we recommend the following:

  1. Ensure the SmartThings app is up to date

    • Download the latest version from the Google Play Store or Galaxy Store.

  2. Attempt setup using a different device

  3. Connect via Ethernet during initial setup

    • If possible, plug the Connect Home Pro directly into your router using an Ethernet cable to improve stability during registration.

  4. Check for firmware updates

    • Unfortunately, if the device has not been used for a long time, it may require a manual firmware push. This is not available to end users, but you can request assistance via the Samsung Members app or contact Samsung Support directly.

  5. Factory reset using the hardware button

    • Hold the reset button for 10 seconds until the LED blinks red, then try setup again.

  6. Consider alternative SmartThings-compatible hubs

    • If the issue persists, newer SmartThings hubs may offer better compatibility and support.

We understand this situation can be discouraging, especially when using a previously purchased device.
