So, brand new S8 Ultra. I ran through the setup as I've done for many other Samsung devices in the past, however, this time the setup app never completes. What I get instead is the setup app erasing all Google accounts I've already added, then it just hangs at "One moment, checking for updates". I've already applied May's update, but that hasn't changed the behavior. I just want the notification to go away, the tablet is setup, but rebooting doesn't do anything to get past this. Ive already done a factory data reset, but that didn't solve this either.

Anyone have any tips?

Hi, please perform factory reset the device again and setup the tablet without restoring any data and then check if it works fine.

OK, that seems to have worked. I simply completed setup without linking my primary Gmail account until setup was finished. That said, I have a new issue: I have a notification that says "app installation paused", which won't go away. When I click it, it brings me to the playstore to check for updates, which I've already completed. A reboot didn't solve it, sadly.

OK, a force stop + clear cache and data seems to have cleared that stuck notification. Looks like I'm good to go. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

I have the same issues.

Did a "normal" set up first time, usual log ins. Notification remained and tablet hung whenever I tried to clear it.

Factory reset, no log ins, notification remains. Still hangs when I try to move it forward. Log into Google via settings, "set up" process still wants me to log in. I do and it crashes the set up process. Notification remains. Cleared cache. Now there is no action / progress when I tap the icon in notifications.

Why can't we even just toggle off "show notifications"?
This is not good enough.

Hi everyone,

I was also stuck at the setup part, having to re-enter my Google account over and over again.

After doing this for at least 5-6times, I just turned the tablet from landscape to portrait mode. I realized that instead of doing the complete setup (that you can actually see fully on portrait mode), i was actually doing every Google setup (cloud, sharing, etc) one by one.

So give it a try, it really worked for me.
