Edit: The device finally got its quarterly update.

Hi, I hope this post will be read by someone at Samsung.

From the information I can gather on the net, the A13 5G (SM-A136W in my case) should have quarterly updates. That means every 3 months. https://security.samsungmobile.com/workScope.smsb.

It has currently never been updated and the security patch level is November 2021. This means that the last security update is a little more than 5 months old.

With quarterly updates, The A13 5G should have had an update in february and the next one should have been in may.

I feel like Samsung decided on a biannual update rate for that phone without updating their support site.

I bought this phone on the promise of quarterly updates and updates over 3 years with at least 2 major android version updates. (Potentially 3 seeing how the A13 4G shipped with android 12).

What is happening? Is this a thing regular with samsung phones security updates? I wanted to try the brand before investing on a flagship phone in a few years if I was satisfied. The flagship phones get longer support and monthly updates, even if they are much costlier, it could be interesting.

However, my current feeling is that Samsung is just as bad as the other brands in the way they almost never update the security of their phones. Can we get some communication please? I am dissatisfied.

Maybe a serious issue was found while testing which causes a delay, I don't know. But there is absolutely no mention of anything on the web site.

Thanks in advance for your answer,
Simon

According to Telus schedule and the rest of providers are close to same time there should be an update for your device on April 5th

Thank you Ray1. I have an unlocked device that is not tied to a carrier like Telus, Rogers, Bell or any other. I am using Fizz to be precise.

Do I need to be on a carrier like those to receive updates?

Just had to do a quick search to find out what Fizz was as I have never heard of it.

From what I see it is a subsidy of Videotron so I think you should get updates through them but I have no experience with them

You could always contact them and ask

In Canada we seem to always be about a month behind receiving updates compared to other places for some reason

As for your update check on the 5th or 6th to see if you get it

Thank you again. It is good to know about that delay. I will get used to it. At least I know the phone is going to be updated soon.
