Hi tinkerdstinker,

Random voice assistant activation is often caused by a voice-activated setting, a sensitive button, or a software glitch. You can fix the issue by adjusting your assistant settings, clearing the app's data, or addressing a hardware problem.

  1. Turn off "Hey Google" voice activation: The assistant can sometimes misinterpret other sounds as the "Hey Google" wake command.
    • Open the Google app, tap your profile icon, and go to Settings > Google Assistant.
    • Select Hey Google & Voice Match and turn off the toggle next to Hey Google.
  2. Disable the dedicated button:
    • Launch Google Assistant by pressing the button, then tap the settings icon.
    • Go to General and disable the Assistant button.
  3. Adjust default assistant settings: If the assistant still activates, you can remove it as the default helper app.
    • Navigate to Settings > Apps > Default Apps.
    • Tap on Digital Assistant App and select None.
  4. Clear the Google app cache: Corrupted cache files can lead to software malfunctions and accidental activations.
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Google App > Storage & Cache.
    • Tap Clear cache and restart your phone.
Other potential causes and fixes

  • A software bug from an update: If the issue started after a recent system or app update, try restarting your device to clear any temporary glitches.
