Galaxy Note

I am using a Galaxy Note 8 with the latest updates.

When I connect it to my computer, the backup program backs up various directories. However, when I attach a 256GB USB-C stick, the phone doesn't recognize it. I have tried Fat, NTFS, and EXT4 formats. I have also tried a 32GB USB-A stick with an adaptor. Same result.

When I run Settings>Accounts and backup>Backup and restore>External storage transfer

with a stick attached, all I get is the error message:

No external storage device detected

I then remove and reattach it. No effect.

Why is this happening?

Hi,

We understand how frustrating it must be to have your USB storage not recognized by your Galaxy Note 8.

Have you ever successfully used external USB storage on this Note 8 before? When you plug in the USB-C stick, does the phone show any notification at all (e.g., “USB drive connected” or charging status)?

The only effect is that a tiny pitchfork-shaped icon appears next to the time displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. To the right of that is a rectangle with a K in the centre.
