I have Googled everything I can think of to find an answer to this question to no avail. Does anyone know if your phone becomes lost or stolen or what have you, and "secure startup" is enabled, is it still possible to locate or track the phone once it's been powered off and back on but before the decryption "secure startup" password has been entered? Or would this be more of a security feature to use for sensitive data, & once phone has been lost/stolen and then powered off your kinda out of luck locating it unless the password is entered & phone can fully boot up? If this matters I have the SM-N960W Snapdragon Variant running Android v8.1.0 November 1st Security Patch.

Side question: Does leaving the USB debugging setting turned on under the developers menu make your phone less secure?

Any answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

if you have the device turned on you can use Google's find my device app to find the phone

the phone will need a connection. you can also ask your carrier to track the phone using the imei, but I doubt that will work

Yes - leaving USB Debugging enabled - Can present a Security Risk - But if your device is never out of your sight - it's not an issue.

Thank you for your responses members!

@TWiiTCH If your device is stolen/lost, you should contact your carrier first. If you have secure startup enabled, the phone cannot fully startup so I dont believe locating your device is possible, but you can check with your carrier to see what they can do.

Thanks

In my A8 under Biometric setting is a Tab for Sending Last Location prior to battery dying. Played with it on a few other Android phones & found that even if the Secure Start-up was active, I COULD locate it based on its LAST KNOWN location. As in when I unlocked it last.
This site has more information on the service: https://findmymobile.samsung.com

To help those seeking answers, I have attached screenshots from my phone.
