Galaxy SHi, please restart your phone. Have you recently upgraded or changed your carrier?
Also, please try the following steps:
Go to supplementary settings/enable caller ID.
Select the Phone app >> Select Tap on the 3 dots on the top right corner >> Select Settings >> Click on supplemenatry services >> Find Show your Caller Id >> Press always to turn on caller identification.

Galaxy SThey are not talking about showing their Caller I.D. to people who THEY are calling.
They are asking about the incoming calls being shown as "private".
Try Clearing Cache & Data for your Dialer.
Open Settings > Apps and Click on the 3 dot menu Middle Right & Toggle On "Show System Apps" Search for "phone" and Clear the Cache & Data for the 3 apps highlighted & Reboot. See if you see the proper Caller I.D. now.
This may be a bit of "overkill", but it should resolve the issue.

Galaxy SIf you're talking about incoming Phone calls, then go to the Dialer's Settings & Check to see if you have Caller I.D. Toggled ON or Off?
If you're referring to Incoming Texts, AND if you are using Samsung's Messages app, then you need to Download Google Messages from the Play Store & Select Google Messages as the Default Messaging app for Texts SMS / MMS / Chat.
If Incoming Phone Calls are STILL showing all calls as "Private", then that is actually a Carrier issue, since they are the ones who provide the Caller I.D. You can only disable it in the Dialer Settings as in the screen shot.
