It seems like the phone is unable to detect m4a files, from the voice recorder app only, coming from external source when copied to the voice recorder folder (USB data transfert). My goal is to have a couple of audio files editable from the Samsung voice recorder app. However, the recordings made with the same app work well and I end up with the same m4a extension. Really dont know why.

I don't know how to help you but just FYI the M4A file extension is only a container, like the .MP4 file which may contain an H.264, HEVC, VP.9 or other codec-encoded video. The actual file might be encoded with an incompatible codec.

Didn't know that! This most probably should be the thing! Thank you very much!

I am also having the same issue @LeMeilleur said. I noticed that the M4A files generated from the Samsung voice recorder are encoded with 3gp4 (isom/3gp4) codec.
Is this codec a Samsung specific codec?
Is there any way to convert audio files (which are not from the Samsung voice recorder) to this codec using any other software ( for example ffmpeg)?

I would be more than happy if someone has found a solution/application to convert an video or audio file in a .m4a file encoded in 3gp4 that Samsung Voice Recorder can open. I have tried multiple apps without success, I am not a fan of "online converter" for a privacy concern.
