So, I got a new phone galaxy s9 I used smart switch to transfer settings and all that. For some reason the default audio used four notifications and ringtones got set to an MP3 on the external sd card.

Despite ringtones and notifications all reset to the proper files on internal storage from time to time a notification will play (for the first time) and play the same MP3, an AC/DC song.

Any thoughts or ideas on exactly why this might be happening or where this setting might be originating?

Try to clean (erase) the cache of the application

It's completely random though. For example, my wife tends to text me while I'm on the phone and I occasionally don't notice, to fix this I enabled notifications during calls, and instead of playing a notification sound that is set it started playing AC/DC mid call. It has also done it for newly installed apps, instead of playing the default notification sound. So question remains, where is it getting this setting from.

Nope. it shows the proper selection, and my music being on the external sd card doesn't show up in the list to be selected.
