I was genuinely so excited for One UI 7. I had been waiting for it since December, checking for updates regularly, hoping it would finally bring improvements. But ever since the recent updates, things have gone from bad to worse — and now I’m just really frustrated.

Here’s a timeline of what happened:

  • March security update: Battery life dropped from about 9 hours to 8 hours. I didn’t think much of it.
  • April security update: It dropped again to about 6 hours. Still weird, but I moved on.
  • One UI 7 update: I was thrilled to finally get it. But after installing it, my battery life dropped further to around 5 hours with completely normal usage - nothing heavy or demanding.
  • May security update: I was hoping it would fix things. Instead, now I can’t even get 3.5 hours of screen time. The phone dies in just 3 hours of basic use.

This is a brand new Galaxy S24, less than 8 months old. I haven’t changed any major settings. I don’t game or use battery-intensive apps. I’ve tried everything:

  • Cleared cache partition multiple times
  • Enabled all power saving features
  • Limited CPU speed to 70%
  • Closed background apps
  • No rogue apps running
  • Nothing abnormal in Device Care
  • Tried monitoring battery usage
  • Phone temperature is fine
  • No software modifications or sideloading

I really don’t want to do a factory reset, but at this point I’m running out of options. If the June update doesn’t help, I honestly don’t know what else to try. This shouldn’t be happening on a premium phone this new.

A factory reset really isn't a big deal assuming you've got proper backups and sync set up. That often resolves things like this. Bugs happen during updates and sometimes the only way to squash them is to reset.

Hi Kathrin1,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed timeline we truly understand how frustrating this experience has been, especially on a new Galaxy S24.

Battery life concerns following software updates can stem from various factors, including background optimization processes, new feature sets, and usage patterns that evolve with each update. That said, the drop you’re describing is far from expected, and we appreciate you listing all the troubleshooting steps you've already tried it shows how proactive you've been.

Since you've already ruled out rogue apps, device temperature, and have cleared the cache partition, we’d recommend the following next steps:

  1. Boot into Safe Mode and monitor battery life for a few hours. This helps isolate whether any third-party apps might be affecting performance, even if Device Care doesn’t flag them.

  2. Battery Usage Breakdown: Check Settings > Battery > Usage since last full charge. Look for any apps or system processes using an unusual amount of power.

  3. Samsung Members App Diagnostics: Open the Samsung Members app > Support > Phone Diagnostics > Battery, to run a more detailed test.

  4. If nothing improves, back up your data and consider a factory reset as a last resort before the next update. Sometimes, post-update issues can linger due to residual system conflicts.

We also encourage you to submit an error report through the Samsung Members app (Menu > Support > Send Feedback > Error Reports). This ensures our software team receives your logs and can investigate further.

We’re here to help, and your feedback has been noted.

Thank you again for your patience and for being a valued member of our Galaxy community.
