I've been having very poor signal reception since the December 2024 update. At first I shrugged it off as I was in vacation in another province, and I assumed it the Bell towers where I'm at. However, when I got back home, the signal reception was still very poo, and after a week of trying to find a solution, I ultimately ended up at a Samsung store. They said there has been damage to the motherboard, and replacing the motherboard would cost 675 CAD, which I'm refusing to pay as it's due to Samsung's screw up. I tried out different SIMs in my phone, and none of them worked. I also tried putting my SIM in my friends' phones, and it worked fine there.

From what I'm seeing on the r/S22Ultra and r/Samsung subreddits, people seem to either have their phones bricked, or they're experiencing trouble with signal after the update, so the problem has been very common right after the update. In other regions, people are even having their motherboards get replaced free of charge, but I had no luck arguing my way to a free motherboard replacement.

I'm wondering if any of you are having the same problem, and if you guys figured things out?

I never heard of a motherboard getting damaged by a Security Patch OTA..

I have however heard of motherboard issues after an Android version update.

Was this update a Security Patch OTA, or was it the One UI V6.1 Update?

Seems like most people were having Bootloop issues, and some connectivity issues, I think that one other person said that they had a motherboard issue?

It's the December 2024 security patch, which lines up with all the threads I pasted. The majority of the threads claim it's a motherboard issue unfortunately. You'd see more results if you Google it, but I didn't wanna bombard you with a lot of threads haha

Have a look at the link below:

It seems to say that the motherboard issue is mostly affecting the Exynos variant of the S22, which is not the version sold in Canada.

It also seems to say that the issue started with the One UI V6.1 Update, rather than the December Security Patch OTA..

I'm not trying to argue with you, it's just that there seems to be conflicting information, and I'm just trying to understand what happened to your S22.

Samsung has rarely admitted any problems caused by an update.. but it just makes more sense to me that it would be an Android update, rather than a Security Patch Update..

I did read the links you posted from Reddit.. but I kind of view anything posted on Reddit as being the Craigslist equivalent of technology.

Hi ModyLoby,

We are sorry to hear that you're facing a frustrating issue after an update. Requesting you to please try the below troubleshooting steps before considering the motherboard replacement, which, as you mentioned.

Reset Network Settings: Go to Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings. This will reset all network-related settings, including Wi-Fi, Mobile Data, and Bluetooth. Sometimes, this can resolve signal reception problems.

Clear Cache Partition:

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up button + Bixby button (if applicable) + Power button until the Samsung logo appears.
  • Use the Volume Down button to select "Wipe cache partition" and press the Power button to confirm.
  • After the process is complete, choose Reboot system now.

Before resorting to a hardware fix, you might want to try a factory reset, which could help resolve any underlying software issues. Backup your important data before doing this, as it will erase everything on the phone.

We certainly understand how frustrating this must be for you, and we hope these steps help resolve the issue without having to resort to an motherboard replacement.

Thank you.

Well, they said they took their device to a Samsung Service Centre, and they were told that it's a hardware issue.. So I don't think that resetting the network settings, or a Factory Reset will fix the issue.

Hi Helenna,
As RedDogRabbit said, they said my motherboard has an issue causing these problems. Additionally, prior to seeking help, I have tried all these steps you mentioned, but it lead nowhere 😕
