S24+ Gallery App crashes and .heic files

My new S24+ Gallery app crashed the other evening when I attempted to open it.

I had received a photo of a receipt via messages and downloaded the image.

The image was of the .heic format.

I discovered via other chat rooms the culprit was indeed the .heic files.

Hooked up my phone to the computer via wire and deleted the files on the phone.

Gallery App is now ok.

It looks like you identified the issue correctly with the Gallery app crashing on your new S24+ due to the .heic files. 

By deleting the .heic files directly via your computer, you effectively removed the corrupted or unsupported content that was causing the app to malfunction. It’s great that the Gallery app is working fine now after taking that step.

Next time if you receive any image in the .heic format, you can convert the files to a more supported format like .jpg or you can use a converter on your PC before transferring the files to your phone.
