Hi,

I thought I'd inquire here.

I just got an S24 ultra yesterday, and it will not charge wirelessly in my new Hyundai Kona N Line 2024. I've previously been using an S22 and it charged fine on the wireless pad. I don't feel there is an issue with the vehicle or its charge pad. It is my belief the issue rests solely on the S24 ultra, it seems. Or, rather, there is an incompatibikity between the phone and car designs.

When thr phone sits on the charge pad in my car, the phone flashes the charging indicator (green circle with battery percentage). Then flashes on and off repeatedly. The wireless charging light on my vehicle does not turn on to indicate the charge is engaged.

It would appear that it's [trying] to charge but won't establish a consistent flow. It just cycles on and off non-stop (while waking up the screen). I've tried this with and without the case on with the same results. The wireless charging on the S24u works on the charge pad I have at home and does work with and without the case on.

My case is:

It seems to be it's a coil alignment issue. It just isn't making proper connection. In my vehicle there isn't much wiggle room to adjust the phone on the pad (gross oversight on Hyundai design - not accommodating for these larger phone models).

Thoughts on this ?

Could this be something that could get resolved in a future update?

It's a real bummer to have android auto wireless connectivity in my vehicle and no longer be able to charge wirelessly too. Feels really dumb that I'd need to plug the phone in now.

Update

I went for a drive today and this time when I placed my phone on the charge pad in my car it behaved different than it had for the last day. It now flashes the green charging circle with battery percentage only once. The screen then went dark as it should, however the charging was not initiated (checked by waking up the screen to see that the phone was still not actually charging), and the light on my car to indicate the charge was happening was still not on.

It is not likely something that can be resolved in an update as the location of the charging coils are likely not changeable by updates.

Only thing I can think of to try is rotating your phone 180 degrees to see if the charging coils might line up better but not likely as they seem to be near the center of the phones.

I've rotated the phone every which way possible. I'm starting to wonder if I have a lemon. I'm now trying to seek out people I might know who have an s24 ultra to test theirs in my car.

Hi, I request you to please follow the guideline on the page number 12 to 16 in the given user manual once and check.

Unfortunately, none of that is helpful and it's all standard practice. Everything in the manual with regard to wireless charging has been attempted and practiced.

I had one instance of placing my phone on the car charger pad then turning my vehicle on and the charging actually engaged, light came on as well. First try!

Sadly, it did not engage charging once replacing it on the pad.

I don't even understand what's happening anymore.

It is a shame that the area for charging the phone is not bigger than your phone so you could move it to see if coils would align.

On my chevy the charging area is much larger than a phone and I tried moving the phone and it seems to charge anywhere in the charging location.

If your phone charges wirelessly on your home charger I doubt it is a problem with your phone

Possibly play with the charging settings on your phone for setting to fast wireless charging in case that is affecting working with your car set up or contact your dealer to see if they have a solution for bigger phones that don't charge.

You might just have to plug your phone in to use it😂

The charger in the car isn't strong enough for the phone's design. I doubt you can get the charger to increase it's charging field.

That genuinely cannot be the the issue. The S24 ultra doesn't have a minimum wireless charging wattage that is clearly specified, and my vehicle is brand new this year. It might not support 15w for fast charging but surely it can produce enough for any charge at all. My S22 had no issue charging.

I've tried turning off Fast wireless charging as well and it had made no difference.

It certain [can] connect with the charge pad, it has twice now, with fast option turned on.

This is a very unique issue to my phone and I'm thinking I might just have to get rid of it.

I didn't mean to imply that your vehicle is the cause. I was trying to say that for the S24, a stronger wireless charger is likely needed. That may be because of the location of the charging receiver in the phone. For example, it could be placed in the phone such that it ends up farther from the cars charging coil. Does the lens bulge on the rear of the phone stick out more than your old phone?
