At some point over the past year-ish, Samsung decided to link voice input to having the "keyboard button on navigation bar" enabled. Previous behaviour did not require this and neatly embedded the mic icon onto the toolbar above they keyboard.

This results in having a giant, redundant mic button under the keyboard which raises the whole keyboard by a full row for a single button.

I am pleading for this change to be reversed. It seriously seems like nobody actually tests or uses these things before shipping the change - why would anyone sign off on this?

Gboard is so much better.

Gboard doesn't allow the use of the side button for voice input. Also, it's really not much better - they're just keyboards.

Thank you. As evidenced by the number of typos I just had to correct in my original post, having the keyboard shifted up a full row does not make for a good typing experience.

Context: I broke my hand and wrist so I figured I wanted to use voice to text with the side button more, only to find this change had been made since I last used it.
