Has anyone observed that, prior to One UI 7, the minimum refresh rate was 24Hz and 10Hz with maximum Hz enabled? However, this new One UI 7 update shows the refresh rate dropping to "--" instead of 24Hz, possibly indicating 1Hz. Even without user interaction on the home screen, it flickers between "--" and 24Hz, suggesting the adaptive refresh rate remains inaccurate, even on the S25 series. Similarly, in Always-On Display (AOD) mode, the refresh rate inconsistently switches between "--" and 30Hz. When viewing a 10fps video, it briefly drops to 10fps before locking at 60fps. Despite five generations of adaptive refresh rate technology, accuracy remains elusive. In contrast, the Pixel 8 and 9 series maintain 1Hz when idle, whereas One UI 7 struggles to drop below "--" even without user activity. The refresh rate unnecessarily switches between "--" and 60Hz, mostly remaining at 60Hz, even with a blinking cursor. Ideally, AOD should drop to 0.0167Hz or 1Hz, as it only needs to update the time every minute. The variable refresh rate should transition to a low-power state (1 Hz/minute or 0.0167 Hz) 10–15 seconds after the always-on display (AOD) activates, remaining in this state until user interaction resumes.

Hi qwer123,

Thank you for your detailed observation and for taking the time to share your experience.

We truly appreciate your insight into how the adaptive refresh rate behaves on One UI 7, particularly on the Galaxy S24 and S25 series.

Your points regarding inconsistencies such as the refresh rate displaying as “--”, fluctuating unexpectedly, and not dropping as expected during Always-On Display (AOD) or idle periods are noted and align with feedback.

Your comparison to other platforms and the suggestion to maintain a consistent low-power state is helpful. We'll be forwarding this feedback to the appropriate development team for review, as Samsung continues to optimize display behavior in upcoming firmware updates.

We also recommend submitting an Error Report via the Samsung Members app > Get help > Error reports, especially while the issue is occurring. Including screen recordings or screenshots can greatly assist our engineering teams.
