Here's DeX running directly on a Galaxy Note 9 phone display - no external monitor needed: https://www.reddit.com/r/SamsungDex/comments/18v38fx/hell_yes/

Samsung can easily make this work on the Fold (or any other device for that matter), they just choose not to.

Please allow DeX to be used directly on the Fold's inner display when unfolded, just as you can on the Tab S devices. This has been demonstrated to be possible with a rooted device - see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/add-more-features-to-oneui-5-beta-rayos-rom-or-stock-rooted-oneui...

Add "standalone" to the line in /system/etc/floating_features.xml <SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_DEX_MODE>dual,wireless,dexforpc</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_DEX_MODE> so it becomes <SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_DEX_MODE>dual,wireless,dexforpc,standalone</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_DEX_MODE>

After applying, the DeX UI will be available on the phone's local display - no external display needed.

This would be a perfect showcase of DeX being the next generation in mobile computing - being a PC that can be folded up and fit in your pocket, then unfolded and used as a desktop without the need to connect to an external display.

Xioami already showed this concept in action with their recent folding device - it ought to be a no-brainer for Samsung too DeX to be used this way directly on the Fold's display, too.

I was really hoping the Fold 3 would implement this feature, but it didn't, and that literally stopped Mr from buying it. Should this feature be added in an update, or committed to for the Fold 4, consider me sold.

Anyone else share this sentiment? Thanks 😊

How exactly would you use this feature on your fold?
daily what would you seriously use it for and accomplish?
how would this make your day more useful?
what could you acocmplish with Dex natively on the internal Z Fold screen that you cannot do in OneUI ?

Literally the same way people use DeX on a Tab. The use case already exists and is easily demonstrated. You don't need to try to do a thought experiment to figure it out.

Literary not all APPS properly function in Dex aa they do in OneUI or on any other Android phone.

You'd know this if you've tried several apps or if you've read Samsung's Dex Dev portal.

Since not even mentioning this and making very wide generalizations leads others to confusion and poor experience IF Samsung granted the main ask. Therein lies the issue ans purpose of forums for debate, not simply for info and wish lists.

I used DeX daily for 3 years as my primary at-home PC. I used my Fold 4 and 5 as my primary portable PC for 2 years. I know what I'm talking about.

To make an app "DeX compatible" requires very little, nothing of which is outside the norm of making an app function well on a tablet. For those that don't natively support the full resizing and free form window functionality, you can enable DeX's developer mode to work around issues. The number of apps that exhibit issues in DeX is increasingly insignificant.

You keep talking about debating, but all you're doing is ranting and ignoring topics at hand.

Also, please learn to spell the word "literally".

Typos - that's your big attack? Weak.

To make an app Dex compatible is a LOT more than what you claim and the work required is dependant on the particular app and feature set within. Unless you're a programmer please stop over generalizing things that are software related. I'm not a developer but I do know very experienced Android developers and I can assure you your statement of Dex is completely incorrect and heavily/wrongfully over-generalizing, not to mention plagiarism direct from Samsung.

I am debating amd you dislike the challenge! That is evident because you incorrectly apply rant.

I've challenged you on most if not all fronts and nothing you've come up with is a sound reasoning to discredit any of my rebuttals.

You assume Dex on Fold is a simple software restriction Samsung has chosen due to limit Tab sale cannibalism. It is not.

You assume using Dex will bring quality of use for all users - yet you even yet to describe what benefit it is to you and your use case; u simply posted for likes and chesrleading bandwagon. Others filed the void of use case and benefit even if just 3 simole sentences, they have for which myself and others are grateful for. Instead it is YOU that have chosen to attack and rant because I asked simply for a reason and use case. The more we continued you've gotten a bit petulant. You can not take positive criticism, you redirect an invalid emotional response and attack. Not a good look at all.

It's not an attack, it's an observation. I have no reason to attack you. Stop being so sensitive.

Samsung has a developer-focused video on what makes an app "DeX compatible". The whole point is that it doesn't take any special customization, merely following some best practices that devs ought to otherwise be following already. DeX would be dead on arrival if it required apps to be tailored for it alone.

I've explained the use case several times despite it being implied. I have explained my personal experience. I have explained that you don't understand key distinctions which colour your opinion. I have explained.

You are ranting. Incessantly. You aren't debating, you aren't rebutting. You're simply yelling at clouds about things you don't understand.

You also can't seem to calm down enough to spell correctly. Take a breath and read what you're typing before submitting the reply. It would benefit not only your spelling but likely your comprehension. Give it a shot.

As someone who does a lot of work from their phone this would be awesome. Samsung would really open their world even more for business use with this feature as well. Carrying my work laptop, personal laptop (gaming on the go where mobile gaming just doesnt quite cut it), work phone, and personal phone while traveling is quite a pain.

I would use this feature all the time!

This would be a game changer on this phone and would make it feel more like a laptop on the go.

Absolutely! It would be a true difference maker relative to any other folding device. An outstanding demonstration of convergence and the future of portable computing.
