OthersNot really very complicated, but there's a few differences.
Operating System & System apps are installed on the internal storage, there's also a protected partition that will almost always allow you to Boot into Recovery, so it's virtually impossible to actually "brick" a Samsung device.
The vast majority of user apps that you download require them to be installed on the internal storage as well, but there's a few exceptions that can be run from the external sd card.
Internal storage is always going to be faster than the external sd card.
External storage (sd card), is pretty much just what you'd expect. It's additional storage space that can be used for music, documents, images etc.
It's really convenient for backing up your device with Smart Switch, as you don't need a computer.
If you're into Flashing Betas (US Betas) you can install the zips from the external sd card.
External storage is also portable, which means that you can remove the sd card & use it on other devices, (so long as it's not encrypted for use on one device only.
Smart Switch Backups stored on the sd card can also be used when you get a new device, just restore the compatible backup on the new device.
Not really much else that I can think of right now.
