Q80T download speeds disappointingly slow

I've just purchased a 2020 QN55Q80T. The TV quality is excellent.

I had it hooked up to 5mbps dsl, wifi and lan worked fine.  Recently upgraded to Rogers Ignite at 500 mbps to maximize viewing experience.  Very disappointed in speeds on TV.

Cable modem is 5' from TV.  Speed test on my laptop, ipad, iphone, on wifi are 500mbps .  Using the browser on tv, same speedtest site(s), max on wifi is 50-60mbps.  Hook it up on lan port of modem, 5' cable, max 70 mbps on tv.  I realize the tv only has a 10/100 port (ancient for 2020), but it should max to 100!!  Same lan connection to my computer is 600-700.

The wifi is connected on my 5Ghz wifi, tv specs say it's wifi5, 802.11ac which theoretically should be able to handle much more than my Rogers is throwing at it.

Seems either the tv  wifi is not as advertised, I've got a bad wifi on the board, or something else is going on.  Any comments appreciated

Anybody else getting better speeds on the new Q80/90's ?  Anybody having same issues?  fixes?

Thanks

Hi Dave58,
Make sure that your TV firmware is up to date. You can check the software updates from TV settings. Samsung always recommends to keep the device updated to get a better experience.
The speed would be shared among the devices that are connected to the same network. Verify if the issue occurs on two or more online media streaming platforms (example YouTube, STAN, Netflix....). If the issue is related to only one streaming platform then it is the transmission issue related to that online streaming platform and not with your television contact the application provider for assistance.
During high peak periods or when using a shared connection, internet download speeds may be reduced, for example from 6 pm to midnight is considered a high peak period, and depending on the type of internet connection you have, there may be bottlenecks on the network resulting in slower download speeds. To verify if this may be the issue, run a speed test in the morning or middle of the day and compare the speeds to when accessing the internet at night time.

Thanks for reply.

Yes I have latest firmware.  Forget the resolution thing, I'm talking about speed

Using that silly browser built into the TV, speedtest.net, rogers speed test, bell speed test, results always show the same.  max 50-60 on wifi, max 60-70 on lan.

a web browser based speed test is same on any platform, when i do the test its just tv using internet, nothing else.  within minutes of each other.  theres no bottle neck, if im pulling 700mbs on my lan cable to pc

If i get 500-600 on mobile devices and laptops, same website, I should get same speed results on the tv browser  with the same speed test site.  So why the difference?  Is the tv browser not giving accurate results?  bad wifi on the board??

Hi Dave58,

TV's web browser has few limitations and it comes with the basic version of flash player. The browser is compatible with Flash web page elements, many of them may not be supported by the browser. The Samsung Web Browser is more capable than a conventional mobile web browser but does not support all of the formats that are possible with a computer's browser (such as IE, Chrome, Firefox). This can also affect different web pages, internet speed, and how they were written in program code. Some websites may not display correctly on Samsung TV's web browser.

yes i have discovered that, and realize it has limitations. and probably wont use it ever, i wanted to test the advertised capabilities of my new TV on WiFi.

so are you saying that the speed test data it returns is inaccurate?  the download is way off from what my modem is putting out, but it gives a accurate upload speed, 22mbps every time.

In a nutshell, I have serious doubts that the advertised  specs wifi5, 802.11ac, either it's wrong, or i have defective wifi on the board, or wrong WiFi installed.

How can this be verified and an accurate reading of the WiFi speed TV is actually operating at?

Sorry, I'm techie, and does the TV stream properly, of course, I just like to know I got what I paid for and what the manufacturer claims is the hardware on the board.  I don't think that's asking to much.

Like buying a car specs say 300mph, do i need to go that fast, no, but I'd certainly test it to see f it really does!   I can't believe no one else has asked or brought this up, or done a speed test  on the browser.  Surely you have a Samsung TV, have you done speed test? are your numbers accurate to what you know your WiFi is putting out?

Cheers :)

I know this is a very old post but I am considering switching to streaming only, dumping cable. I, too, literally am sitting 6 feet from the TV, and my IPad gives me 300mbps download and the Samsung (browser speed test), same server, same site, gives me 1/10th of that. Upload is pretty comparable. It’s a Samsung Frame TV ‘that’s less than 2 years old, software is current, etc. I see there was no other follow-up at least on this thread but I’ll look for other answers. I’m going to check my new LG OLED tv next to compare.

I have the same TV and have found the same problem regarding the inadequate ethernet port and the connectivity. Ive looked for a solution without success! I have tried using USB Ethernet adapters as well and havent found a single one that can bypass the onboard connection. This has got to be the most disappointing feature for an otherwise excellent TV
