So I just got my brand new watch6 and everything was super easy and great during setup. Until....

I tried to setup my blood pressure and heart rate in the Samsung Health app and it kept saying that the watch was detached (even though it was on and fitted appropriately) while calibrating.

I went on some forums to see if I could trouble shoot it and tried every suggestion with no luck. Than I saw something mentioning that tattoos will cause the error. I thought 'no way!'

So I contacted Samsung tech support and they put me through some troubleshooting and nothing worked. I mentioned seeing something about tattooes being an issue. The last thing tech support suggested was me trying to set this up on my mom who has no tattoos and sure enough, it worked properly.

So yes, if you have tattoos on your wrists, Samsung Health features will not work. Very disappointing considering the price point.

Congrautlatuons on your watch! I'm sorry to hear about the issue , BUT that will also affect Apple Watches or evwn Garmin and every other watch out there what uses wrists for acquiring health data. Wristss, even without tattoos, are actually VERY poor for health data other than acquiring pulse. Apple's own enginerring team specifically stated this publicly known during development and sought after the best sensors: hence why the initial one was GOLD so they could charge closr to $10K USA dollars to cover dev and manufacturing costs of all parts.

Maybe Oura or Samsung's upcoming ring may be of better use and success for you.

Remember, tattoos are not just ink but skin tissue as well subdermally. Blacks or anyone with black genetics will have more skin scarring - i know this personally, btw: same with cuts and decent scratches.

Yes, the low frequency green light beam is used to reflect/monitor your blood movement, but if your skin is damaged, the green light beam can't be reflected directly back to watch's sensor and it will badly affect algorithm calculation, It's the reason why it doesn't work.

Hi J1985P, we apologize for the inconvenience you are facing. As Sam-Sun-of-a-G and Al-001 have explained, due to technological limitations, tattoos may interfere with the reading. We are also aware that similar experiences have been reported. Kindly check if there is a software update for your Galaxy Watch6.

We have communicated this to the relevant team, and hopefully, future wearable products or software updates will bring improvements to the user experience.
