Hi, I've been using my Galaxy Watch for the last two years and like it, but this issue is getting old: the watch is not counting calories correctly and this needs to be fixed once and for all.
i've been doing the same workout routine for years with my elliptical.

My previous smart watch, a TomTom Spark, is recording 600 calories for a 35-minute run.

The Galaxy Watch records 350 calories for the same run if I select the Elliptical workout.

It records about 380 calories if I choose an "other workout".

My elliptical machine tells me I burned 500 calories.

I installed Strava on my watch: it recorded 490 calories but won't synch with Samsung Health.

And the kicker: if I manually enter a 35-minute elliptical run in Samsung Health, it records... 477 calories!

I know Samsung does not take heart rate into consideration when recording calories; I do monthly resets of my watch (because the software gets corrupted if you install / uninstall too many watchfaces) and has been performing the same since I got it.

It is also impossible to adjust the workout calories s in Samsung Health, so I keep track of everything in another app. Manually.

So Samsung, hardware may be good but software needs an update!

Please update the watch!

Thanks

Hi dpelchat, There are some factors regarding the calculation of the calorie data on your Samsung smart watch:

  • The watch will display estimated calories burned, based on the current time of day that it is initialized, even after a reset.
  • Data on the watch takes into account a person's basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is calculated using the information in the user profile.
  • The calorie count displayed does not mean the exact burned calories during exercise, and is not the same as the true burned calorie data.
  • The calorie calculation may change based on the basal metabolic rate (BMR), even without exercising. This is a normal operation.

sorry but what you're saying does not make sense. If I go in Samsung Health, it says that I've spent 35 minutes doing elliptical and burned 350 calories, which is not correct.

Hi dpelchat, Thanks for the response. If you are facing issues with Samsung Health, then I suggest you to clear cache for your Samsung Health application and check if the issue got resolved. To do this please go to Settings >> Apps >> Search and Tap on "Samsung Health" app >> Storage >> Clear cache.

Probably not going to solve the issue I have with the watch not calculating calories right, is it?

Hi dpelchat, I suggest you to unpair your watch from your device and reboot your watch and pair it again. Also, please backup your data using the settings in the Galaxy wearable app and perform clear cache and data for the Samsung Health application. Please perform this and get back to us with the results.

I already reset my watch about every month so I won't bother.

Hi, we've had an update recently. Two positives, now we can have the watch display always on as we workout, and the displays have been greatly improved.

Unfortunately the calorie counting is still the same and way off

Just got my new watch for Christmas. Had the fitbit Versa. Calories are way off on the galaxy 6, says I am burning only 1200 a day. When I google this seems like everyone has this issue. Why don’t you fix it? It’s a health watch it should work. If I don’t resolve I will go back to my fitbit
