Galaxy S

Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday!!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys lots of sun. As most of you know I have recently switched to my very first Note device.....I am a bit skeptical but excited at the same time. This does NOT mean that Galaxy S is coming to an end for me, but I thought it would be fun to travel back in time and go over the years back to to my birthday on June 4th 2010 - the release of the very first Samsung Galaxy S device. It was announced back in March 2010, and what started a trend to be one of the most popular and highest selling devices today.

I have owned every single Galaxy S device since the very first Galaxy S, it was my very first Android device as well, running on Android 2.1 Eclair and then eventually got updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Oh the memories...

Just thinking back where Android and Galaxy S once started and what they have become today.

Such an achievement. Because of such high successful Galaxy device launches, Samsung also decided to announce some other series of devices such as the ever popular Note of course, which started a new streak of Phablets.  They also announced the A, and J series (my initials lol)

As we all know, every year Samsung releases a new device, they also release a newer version of Samsung's Over the Horizon.

Lets look back at the previous versions. Which one was your favorite? Personally for me, I LOVED Over the Horizon on the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, and the Galaxy S9.

If you dont remember what they sound like, take a listen to them below, and watch some of the highlights of these amazing devices when they were announced. Share your thoughts below and which versions of Over the Horizon you loved the most.

Cant wait to read them all!

This is awesome thanks for the post! It's been such a long journey for the Galaxy S series. Happy I was able to experiencing the S1 - S10 evolution. This series truly started it all on android and has come a long way to be a market leader. I've always loved the "Over the Horizon" theme and have some thoughts about each of these phones/themes:

S1- Sounds like a commercial for a spa

S2- Makes me think of like an F1 Racing prologue song or something

S3- This has always been my favourite version of the song. It's heartfelt and builds on the idea of technology being harmonious with life. I don't see marketing like this anymore but this was a truly effective way to capture an audience while still promoting features

S4- This was also a really good rendition of the theme, and still kept to life and technology being something that require synergy to co-exist.

S5- The infamous Bandaid back cover with the first HR sensor and major android fingerprint sensor. I loved the S5!! It was the first to market Qi wireless charging as a back cover.. and here we are today with Qi wireless everywhere!! A great fun rendition of the theme.

S6- First S series samsung without removable battery/sd card slot. Truly the first engineering marvel for an aluminum and glass body design. This theme went for the heartstrings with an orchestrated version, love the vibe.

S7- Refined version of the S6, i think Samsung really found their identity with design and form factor. I feel like the S7 was what people wanted the S6 to be based on its limitations. The first aluminum/glass body S series phone with IP68 rating.

S8/S8+ - My all time favourite of the new generation of an S series phones without a home button. Inifinty edge screens plus new larger form factor really transformed the way we now want our devices to be bezel-less. With COVID-19 being a big thing, the IRIS scanner was a huge, huge, huge piece of technology that would alleviate complication for phone unlocking with a mask. This theme song is probably my least favourite, but I guess it was truly experimental to add lyrics. Some songs are just best kept without lyrics.

S9/S9+ - Again, a refined version of the S8+ and the first to have an adaptive dual aperature mode. This is so unheard of for a mobile device and a technological marvel! Again, setting the stage for cameras to get better and better into the next generations. I love this theme, the aesthetics and branding reminds me of the S3. I wouldn't doubt this is the team going back to their roots where life and technology meet and continue into the future.

S10/S10+ - The first phone with 512GB/1TB local storage options, ultrasonic fingerprint embedded under the screen, and that Camera cutout!!! Wow!! This was a hardware featured marvel!! I really love my S10+ and the 512GB Ceramic black. Honestly, I can't go back from 512GB anymore... its such a game changer to have so much local storage available. This rendition of the song sounds like something out of Walt Disney, it's elegant and classic.

I haven't gotten my hands on an S20+/S20Ultra but I'm sure it boasts some amazing camera features! Happy I was able to join in on the launch party for this device :)

TLDR: Long reply but thanks again for this amazingly nostalgic post SnowCat19! Samsung S-Series will always be OG to me. Cheers and stay safe all!

The Galaxy S Captivate was really sluggish out of the box, but running the lagfix app made it a lot smoother.

Fantastic post. The first Samsung S series phone I ever had was the Galaxy S5. When my contract came up for renewal, I kept upgrading. The next phone was the S6, then the S7, next the S8 and now currently own the S9.
