Hello
I am facing an issue with my Samsung Galaxy A20 where I can't transfer files between it and my computer. The computer doesn't recognize it as a portable device because for some reason the option to choose the type of USB connection (charging/file transfer/MIDI) doesn't show up on the phone.
I have tried reinstalling the official Samsung android driver, factory resetting my phone, changing the USB cable, changing the USB protocol (using *#0808#) and rebooting the phone but none have worked.
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and would appreciate any help.

Thanks 😊

Do you have developer option available? If not go to about phone, press on software option then press build number 5 times and you'll have the developers option available. Then look for the usb option

Hello KOTS21!
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I have developer options available and have tried tweaking the USB settings that way but no success

Did you try Rebooting both devices & connect with the USB cable again... watching the phone's screen to see if you get the "Allow" the connection prompt?

When you want to connect your phone to your computer, depending on the purpose you may need to "Allow" the connection between the two devices.

Reboot both devices, and when you connect the phone to the computer, look at the phone's screen, you should see a prompt asking you to Allow the connection.

I have never in my life ever had to use any dialer code to allow this.

The Correct Samsung USB Drivers & Platform-Tools if you want to use adb... But that's it, nothing else.

Hi RedDogRabbit.
Thank you for the reply.
I know what you mean I have other Samsung and android devices , but even that prompt doesn't show!
It's like neither device wants to recognize the other.
The phone treats it as simply being connected to charger (cable charging is the only available option).
The computer, nothing.
I have no idea what's wrong. 😕

Try Uninstalling the Samsung USB Drivers you currently have installed on your computer, and download and install the ones in the link.

See if that works for you.

The only other things that I can think of, is if it's an issue either with the USB cable, or a hardware issue with your phone.

Open the Samsung Members app Click on Support & Diagnostics & View Tests, run the Diagnostics for the USB Charging port and see if you get any error messages?

I've never needed to use the Dialer to change anything in order to transfer files, Flash Firmware etc, so unless you are absolutely certain that using the Dialer didn't create a problem? You MAY need to Factory Reset the phone to clear out whatever changes were made using the Dialer?
