Android security patch level August, 1,2020

One of the features for android security patch level for August, 1,2020  for build number : A505WVLU7BTG3 is that it added an option showing the finger print option when the screen is off.

I do not see this option, or Any preferences to activate.  Can anyone explain this update ommision?

Try the following,

Open Settings -> Biometrics and security -> Fingerprints
Click on "Show icon when screen is off"
There are couple options there

This is the settings I have set. I also reset the phone and no fingerprint icon appears when there screen blanks out.

Also, you need to go to

Settings -> Lock screen -> Always On Display

Choose Show Always.

Because is on "Always On Display". If you choose "Tap to show", the finger print icon will not show. Only have AOD show always to see the finger print icon show.

I was looking for only the fingerprint display to be always on during a screen blanking for the purpose of orientating my phone for authentication and using little power usage. the solution you provided turns on the clock.

@SamSungtwo, this is not possible. AoD consider as screen off. Therefore, the finger print icon does show on AoD screen, which means screen off. But not like what you says black screen, only finger print icon.

The description in the security update states that the fingerprint would be displayed. Since battery life is a consideration I would expect that only the fingerprint icon would be displayed and nothing else on the screen.

Not what you said only finger print icon. It shows with AOD.

yes. Always on display, I do not expect the clock and accessories. The reason being the more items displayed on the screen during screen saving mode the more power used. So just how you can choose different clock, calendars and pictures I only expect the fingerprint icon as a display only item.
