Can someone please advise what the difference is between the 1st 2 messages. I know the 3rd one is Messenger.  But the other 2 are confusing. As someone with a learning disability I can't tell what difference there is between the two and can't seen to remember what app does what. I have tried to screen shot though it just confused me more. I used to have the setting to see read/ received but it seems it's not on either app despite having setup to indicate this. Why are these 2 apps named the same? Any help is appreciated.

The first Messages app is Google's Messaging app.

The second Messages app is Samsung's Messaging app.

Samsung's Moderators have been advising people to switch to Google's Messaging app, if they are having problems with Samsung's app.

Contact names missing from Samsung's Messaging app for one. It would only show the number, but not the name.

Google Messages is the standard, and works best between all Android manufacturers.

While I personally happen to agree, there's a lot of people, who for their own reasons, prefer Samsung's Messaging app..

I've always used Google's Messaging app myself.

Curious to know why it's not indicated on the icons. You'd think it would be easier.
That said the Google icon doesn't seem to have read/ receipt option and it is only for group messages. Is this correct?

Depending on whether you are using Chat or SMS, the features are different. It also depends on what the recipient is using, ie: Android or iPhone.

I get Delivery notifications for some, but not for others.

You can also send "read receipts" if you choose to.

It's not something that I am terribly concerned about though.

I forgot to mention that some of the options are dependent on your Carrier, but generally Google Messages is better supported by the Canadian Carriers than Samsung's Messaging app.

I find the chat read receipts only work if both parties have it on. Only 2 people in my contact list have the chat and read receipts option feature turned on.

I only have the Google option on my phone now, the Samsung one disappeared a few updates ago.

I message with Google to single contacts as well. I've never used it for group messages.
