Which email app are you using?

Regardless, did you check in your email app's settings to see if you have enabled Sync?

Samsungs email client. It's working now. Samsung support suggested that I wipe the partition or some odd thing. I'm not wiping my phone! So I fumbled through the settings and discovered that all it was was an error in where an account is added. They apparently don't know.

They probably suggested that you Wipe the Cache partition, which wouldn't have:

  • a) deleted any of your data, files etc. Wiping Cache only clears out any "ju*nk".
  • b) Wiping Cache wouldn't have fixed any issue with how your email was setup.
  • d) Good to hear you figured it out 🤙🏻

Well, they didn't know what was wrong so indeed good that I figured it out. As I said to him, I'm NOT wiping my phone. Why he even suggested that is beyond me.

There's a SIGNIFICANT difference between Wiping Data / Factory Reset and Wiping Cache.

I would hope that they did NOT suggest that you Wipe Data / Factory Reset, that would have deleted everything from your phone, and returned it to the state when you first received it.

Wiping Cache, you would NOT lose ANYTHING, as essentially it just removes fragmented bits & pieces from your Cache, which wouldn't be accessible to you anyway.

Well, I'm not wiping anything and I suggest that no one else do that either. I'm surprised that he suggested that. But he also suggested that I contact Hotmail and that I use Gmail. He didn't know how to add my account back in (after he told me to delete it). I imagine that he was frustrated by not knowing what to do and was grasping at straws.

Don't know how much experience you have with Android, but I suggest that you read what is below.

"Over time, the cache partition can become filled with temporary data no longer needed. Wiping the cache partition can help free up your device's storage space.

Fixing app crashes or other problems

If you're having issues with a specific app, such as crashes or error messages, clearing the cache partition may help. App data sometimes becomes corrupted and can only be quickly fixed by wiping the cache partition.

Installing a system update:

Some system updates may require you to wipe the cache partition before installing them. This is because the cache might have data incompatible with the most recent update.

Resolving boot issues

On rare occasions, your cache may become so bloated with corrupted data that your device will be unable to boot or encounter other problems while attempting to boot. Wiping the cache partition might solve these problems."

FYI, after EVERY Monthly Security Patch Update, I ALWAYS Boot into Recovery & Wipe Cache.

After EVERY Android Version Update, I ALWAYS Factory Reset my devices, as do many others as well.

Why I Factory Reset after every Android version update:

Essentially because, While there's a script in every OTA that essentially wipes Cache. In Android version updates, the script SHOULD erase / wipe data that may be a conflict to the new OS.

It's not always 100% effective, and there's been plenty of posts over the years, where some people experienced issues, some almost unnoticeable, others more so.

Performing a Factory Reset, while shouldn't be required, has for me at least, resulted in never having any problems.

It's a habit from testing Custom Roms & I think that it's served me well.

You can do anything you like as can others. I'm not going to lose my data, thank you.

Backups using Smart Switch, Google, Swift Backup etc.. and in more than a decade, I have never lost any Data.

I'm not telling you to Factory Reset, but I am telling you, UNEQUIVOCALLY, that Wiping Cache will never, EVER cause you to lose one kb of your Data.
