I need to retrieve a deleted text.Google search says press on 3 dots in top right above messages abd select recycle bin but that option is not there

I do believe that Google messages asks you before you delete something as it can't be recovered. You might be out of luck.

I believe they have copies also but not sure for how long

Agree 👍 they do hold them I believe for 30 days. I might be wrong but its a process for them to get them for you.

I'm not sure if many people are aware, but newer Samsung phones have 2 different texting apps pre-installed on a brand new phone. They now have messages by Google as the default texting app, but if you swipe up and go you the Samsung folder in the apps screen you'll find Samsung messages. Messages by Google does not allow deleted messages to be recovered, however Samsung messages does. So if this happens in the future, you may want to start using Samsung messages
