On Android 9 how are running application s displayed.
I know how to find running services. I can view open apps.
I have an app that detects internet chat and when it is closed I still get notifications and I don't see the app or any process running for it.

I found the solution. the security app wickr pro uses android Google cloud messaging which has been deprecated to another name. I was surprised to find an end to end encrypted app with its own servers using a Google communications protocol. I would not of found the process because it's a Google process not wickr apl

glad to hear that.

how did you find out that wickr uses the 'android cloud to device messaging'  system?

I had this tool I forgot to mention, it's called Current Activity.

or this script in adb.
