Galaxy AHi mEL1,
We are sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with SmartThings on your device after the recent update.
The recent update likely caused compatibility issues between the SmartThings app and your device's outdated software.
If the app continues to cause interruptions during basic phone functions like making calls or connecting audio cables, a factory reset may help clear any residual issues from the update. Please remember to back up important data first.

Thank you.

Galaxy AIf indeed it's an A5, the device was released in 2017.. it's likely that Smart Things just no longer supports Android 8.
I'd likely be thinking about getting a newer device.
While you could probably Flash the previous version, I can't really see it being worth the trouble.

Galaxy AFlashing may work, but if the issue is because Smart Things is no longer compatible, because IT has been updated, reverting to the previous Firmware won't help.
But Flashing essentially involves, downloading the previous Samsung Firmware to your computer.
Downloading and installing Platform-Tools, Odin & Samsung's USB Drivers to your computer.
Extract the Downloaded firmware, insert each .tar file in the correct slot in Odin & flash each, one at a time to your phone, while it is in Download Mode.
NOTE > If there's been a change in the Bootloader version, then reverting to a previous version is NOT possible... But I think that it's unlikely that a device of the age of yours, would have had a Bootloader version change m
