Galaxy NoteYou need to download TWRP & Odin 3.1.13 to your computer - You need to download Magisk to the external sd card on your phone.
You Flash TWRP to your phone with Odin from your computer - Boot into TWRP and the FIRST thing you do is make a Nandroid (TWRP backup) of your Stock Samsung Firmware etc.
Then Flash Magisk from TWRP Recovery - Now you have Root
It depends on whether or not you want Android 10 or Pie - There's lots of Custom Roms for the S7 - LineageOS is pretty conservative - But there's really customised Roms like Resurrection Remix - Havoc etc for Pie

Depending on whether you Pie or Android 10 there's different versions of Magisk that you need
Android 10 needs Magisk v20
BTW - The Canadian S7 is Exynos & you can Flash any of the Exynos Roms - Unlike the US S7 which you can't Root - There's lots of choices with the S7 series 👍

Galaxy NoteNot to mention that XDA is extremely cautious & protective of their reputation 😉🐧
