The battery protection feature when it's set to "Adaptive" it says that while we sleep Maximum is used and the battery is capped at 80% but will switch to Basic before we wake up to have the phone charged at 100% when we start our day. However I am wondering, if dueing the day on the "Adaptive" mode the Basic option is enabled by default or is it off? Does it mean our battery will keep charging if we have an irregular sleep routine?
I have an S24 Ultra 512gb

Hi Dawiitz,

On your Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, when the battery protection feature is set to "Adaptive" mode, the phone intelligently manages charging to preserve long-term battery health. Here’s how it works:

While you are using your phone during the day, the Basic option (which allows the phone to charge to 100%) is off by default. This means that the phone will only charge up to 80% unless you explicitly need the full charge.

If you have an irregular sleep routine, the phone's Adaptive mode still adapts to how you use it. If you're charging overnight, it will prioritize charging up to 80% during your sleep and then switch to Basic to top up to 100% before you wake up, ensuring that the phone is fully charged when you start the day.

However, if you're charging during the day with an irregular routine, the Adaptive mode will continue charging based on the power needs and whether it's plugged in long enough. It doesn't continuously charge once it reaches the set limit (typically 80%). The battery will typically stay in a safe range, preventing unnecessary charging after the 80% threshold.

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply, though, what you said is completely false. I've been using Adaptive since I bought my phone 6 months ago. It happened to me many times that I forgot to charge my phone overnight and I woke up with the battery at around 30% at 7 am. By 9 am the phone is at 20% or even 16% and I need to charge it, and the charge goes all the way up to 100% it never "stops at 80% unless I need the full charge" as you said. However it happened to me that I forgot my phone was charging because I was too busy, it started charging at 9 or 10 am and when I realized it was 2 or 3 pm, which meant it's been plugged in for about 4hrs and the percentage didn't even drop to 99% which again means Basic wasn't turned on. Based on this and the information you gave me, the supposedly super smart "Adaptive" mode is useless and a gimmick, and it harms the battery more than manually switching between "Basic" and "Maximum."

Hi Dawiitz,

Thank you for your detailed explanation. We are sorry to hear that the Adaptive charging isn't performing as intended for you and you're experiencing some issues with the Adaptive charging mode on your S24 Ultra.

Adaptive charging should learn your charging habits over time and only apply the 80% cap during overnight charging when you typically sleep.

Toggle Adaptive Charging: Go to Settings > Battery and Device Care > Battery > More Battery Settings, then toggle Adaptive Charging off and on. This can sometimes reset the feature and help it learn your charging patterns more effectively.

Use Manual Control: As you mentioned, manually switching between Basic and Maximum modes might give you more control and avoid the unpredictability of Adaptive charging.

Thank you.
