Ok... I've been on the edge of REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanting to root my phone. And I say this because I know a few people who have the new Pie update. So, for y'all expert rooters, who have rooted their phone before, (@Shaggyskunk1, don't you have a rooted S7??) But, I'm VERY nervous to do it. So I'm wondering if someone could tell me STEP BY STEP what to do, so I don't mess anything up. And I also need to know how I'd go about downloading Pie after rooting??? Thanks 🥒

Why do you need root? Honestly if you hafta ask I wouldn't do it @ least not without a full backup and everything you need to fix it if it goes south quick.

Ok, one question first... is it safe to do this on a very old laptop that doesn't have security?

Oh my goodness.... I'm so tossed... Shouldn't knox work?? This phone is the phone I use in my daily life, so if I break it... That's a problem. BUT, I assume yours is ALSO what you use to text, call, Google things, etc. SO, I am willing to try. One problem, though: I've tried to download the Magisk file, but I can't seem to find the download link on the page you gave... So, which paragraph is it under?

For Magisk - You download the zip & Magisk Manager to the external sd card on your phone - You will need to install the Magisk Manager AFTER you have Flashed the TWRP img.tar using Odin 3.13.1 with your computer.

Once you have Flashed the TWRP img.tar (takes a few seconds) You'll have to Boot into TWRP Recovery (looks very different from the stock Samsung Recovery!) - You'll have to Swipe to Allow Changes & Then you will HAVE to type "YES" to FORMAT data (not wipe but FORMAT)....

Watch the YouTube videos on how to Flash TWRP on your Galaxy S7... until you feel comfortable with the process.

It should go without saying - But this is all at your OWN RISK & while it's a straightforward process - I take NO RESPONSIBILITY for anything that happens - Be it a frozen device - pigs falling from the sky or cats becoming theoretical physicists...

Remember that the VERY FIRST things that you need to download to your computer are:
The Stock Samsung Firmware for your device & Odin 3.13.1.... You can almost ALWAYS boot into Download Mode & with the Stock Firmware & Odin you can recover from virtually anything 🐧

Ok. I see. I have a warranty coverage through Costco which includes any damage, BUT just incase, I'm gonna get my tech wiz cousin over to help me. I'm gonna start today, wish me luck... And one last question, is the Magisk file the Pie software?

Ok, so if I'm correct... I have to root the phone BEFORE installing custom ROM. I want the Pie ROM. So, do you have any links for a good developer of that?!!

Dang it, so I have to wipe my phone to install the ROM? And after install TWRP backup, I have to install the ROM, and then boot it into recovery mode to get all my info (texts, calls) back?
