So I recorded something from a meeting and wanted yo share with members who were not present. I recorded it on the Samsung Notes application and now when I send the link for sharing and my colleagues download it, they are unable to open the file. It is in an .sdoc format or sealed document and I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and has been able to find a solution for it. I tried using converter apps of the play store and looked around online but couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance!

You used Samsung Notes to record it not the actual voice memo app? If I am not mistaken I believe an SDOC file is a "Sealed Word Document" Only way it can be opened is if someone has the necessary rights to unseal it.
Honestly I would of used the Samsung voice recorder to record the meeting.

You can convert the file by using VLC on a PC.

  1. Open VLC
  2. Click "Media"
  3. Click "Convert/Save"
  4. In File Selection, Click "+ Add..."
  5. Choose "All Files" for the file extension
  6. Choose the desired file
  7. Click "Open"
  8. Click "Convert/Save"
  9. Under Settings, choose "Convert"
  10. For Profile, choose "Audio - MP3"
  11. Choose your Destination
  12. Click Start
  13. It's going to say, "The output file already exists. If recording continues, the file will be overridden and its content will be lost." If you look at the grayed out file name of the main window, it may say something .m4a. If it says that, click "Overwrite."
  14. It's going to give you the same message a few more times, with file names like "content.dat," "doc.dat," etc. Click on "Keep existing file" each time. (About 5 times.)

The audio part of your file should be converted to an MP3 now.

After much frustration, I think I've figured this out.

Merely long tap the voice file within the Note it was recorded > Share it > It's already in .m4a format and this format can be converted if needed.

Hey everyone,

For a while I've been stuck with my notes in a backup ZIP file, but decided to do something about it and found this thread. If you are looking for a way to convert audio from Samsung Notes (.sdoc) files to something more accessible like .m4a. I’m a bit of a hobbyist programmer, and I recently put together a free online tool that might help with this exact problem.

It’s super straightforward: you just upload your .sdoc file, and the tool extracts any embedded audio and converts it to .m4a format. It’s all done online, so there’s nothing to install or download. Plus, your files aren’t stored on the server, so everything stays private.

If you want to check it out, here’s the link: Samsung Notes Audio Extractor | Convert SDOC to .m4a Online.

I made this tool because I noticed there wasn’t an easy solution out there, and I hope it can save you some time and hassle.

It works by simply extracting the audio files from sdoc or sdocx which are actually just ZIP files with a different file name, something I found out by just opening the file in notepad and noticing the first line being PK, which to ChatGPT was a dead giveaway! ;) Hope it helps.
