I am very disappointed with the fragility of the S8.
After 4 days, my phone fell from a few feet ( my desk) and the glass broke). I have had many samsung phones and never bought a screen protector, and never had an issue.
Terrible the crappy/fragile glass they used for such an expensive phone.
Whether it be the 7 battery or the 8 glass. Samsung quality is more like "made in China", then South Korea.

The only screen I've ever broken out of the dozens of phones I've had...was the Note 7. That being said I've got insurance on this device and even with the higher deductible I'm going without a protector cause it feels so much better and they all suck.

I have had every Samsung galaxy phone and note series and used nothing but Spigen Neo Hybrid cases, no screen protectors and never damaged my phones in any way. Yes I have dropped them, my S7 edge I dropped from 10 ft onto concrete at work and nothing. All depends how they land, any phone will break if it is hit right regardless of distance it falls.....

They are prone to shattering. I have many friends that did theirs in with just a small drop. I was told to get the glass film protector, and lucky I did as when I dropped it recently only the film shattered and not the real glass 👍 S6 Edge.

Late to the party, but I can second this. I've only had one other Samsung phone get damaged; I don't know the model's name, but I still have it. A 2009-ish device - it slammed into concrete, shattered beyond any semblance of repair, and bounced into the nearby in-ground pool. This was 2014. It still works to this day.
The S8, though...
I tossed it lightly onto a desk, it slid off rather slowly... and the whole bottom right corner shattered. The table was about 2.5-ish feet tall (shorter than my waist height, with me being 5'), and the phone had both a case and screen protector. Like, seriously? I'd expect that kind of stuff from Apple, not Samsung!
It worked until it was retired only a few weeks ago (I got in the spring of 2018), but it was so disappointing.
