Had this start about 2-3 months ago, no new apps installed.

Unlock my phone and the default web browser pops up to a website (traffic redirect for revenue). Turn off all notifications for everything. Still happens.

Tried using the google play to see most resent app. No luck.

Tried installing apps that block/track popups. No luck

Any suggestions or ideas why android or samsung don't have a better system?
Dont feel secure in using the phone anymore.

Hey @Cosmic

Please try to clear the cache and data for the browser application and see if it works.
Go to Settings >> Apps >> Search and Tap on browser app >> Storage >> Clear cache & Clear data.
Note : Clearing the data will reset the app to factory default settings. Any personal settings saved on the app will be removed.

Hi keagan and thanks for the reply. Done a while back and even uninstalled chrome/reinstall thinking it was the browser app. same problem followed to Samsung default browser. Something is causing the default browser to open to there add revenue websites.

Hi Cosmic, try my suggestion. I learned from this forum.

When the ads popup, do not close the popup. Take a screenshot. Go to Gallery screenshot folder, view the filename of the screenshot you took. The filename will tell you which apps popup the ads. See if this solution works for you.

Thanks Tallman and just shows the current web browser in the file name. not what popped open the website. I see my options is the pain of a factory reset all because there aren't better tools (even in the dev mode) to track down offending apps that turncoat.

Download goodlock from the galaxy store and install nice catch. Make sure the detect commercials is on and go o to it after the popup. It should show you which app it was.

had difficulty in finding goodlock on the store so didn't go that route. trying a free other popup catchers that look trustworthy but none so for have caught the root cause of the unwanted web pages being opened.
