Apple was forcing updates on users back in the day in which was found to be slowing their phones, with the cost of batteries being "so high you may as well buy a new phone" this was a very terrible practice that was only brought to our eyes because they got caught.

This is planned obsolescence, a practice many many companies do to maintain profits. Since phone companies pump out new phones every year, they need to ensure the new phones will be purchased or else the profit loss would be bigger and bigger. So aside from Refurbishing old ideas over and over again, they may very well be using other tricks to kill off our phones performance.

So when Samsung continually forces updates onto my phone then tells me its mandatory because "Security issues", I get a bit irritated. How can I trust a multi-billion dollar company thats only interest is profit?

So with every update, which one may potentially kill off my phones performance? It works **bleep** great right now and i've been delaying the latest update for a long time by carefully selecting "back" when it pops up. But this battle i'm having is very irritating.

This is why I left Apple, their control over their devices back when I was using their iPhone 4S was astonishing considering I purchased the thing, it felt like I simply rented it.

I'm feeling a bit the same with Samsung/Android now. They killed off the Aux because "space" for a barely compatible USBC port that doesn't work with typical dongles, only specific dongles.

These larger companies never have YOU in their interests, they don't see the individual because there are too many people. The masses won't complain about forced updates because a lot simply trust the company - like everyone did back when Apple was screwing people over.

So with all this said, what alternatives do we have where the company won't force updates continuously making you question if that was the one that'll kill off your phone?

Or is this simply inescapable at this point?

I'm going to be selling this phone off soon, but I wish to find an alternative. If i'm required to go back to flip phones at this point, i'm tempted too. Its nice to have GPS, Email, bank access, etc, but a little decent flip phone can do similar if the right one is found.

Its sad that big companies follow the same path, limiting options for everyone. Its like Tesla, I love the company and everything about it but its scary. If a person crashes because the autopilot made a mistake, the company has instant access to that car at all times - they can save their **bleep** and their stockholders **bleep** in an instant by changing 1 thing to make it look like the people were at fault.

Not that they are, but how would we ever know? World isn't candies and butterflies, big companies that have rich fatcats to satisfy will always use their financial resources to come up with borderline if not illegal strategies to protect their profit.

Would you rather all your personal information, banking information all end up on the dark web for sale. Then we would be reading how Samsung did nothing to protect you. Fact is Samsung and EVERY other company must deliver a level of security for their electronic devices.
As for missing features it is annoying such as the headphone jack for audiophiles, the heart rate and Oxygen monitors gone, air gestures for controlling your phone...the list goes on and on. That also applies to every device on the market. Get used to fact that corporations are a "for profit" business and stakeholders always want more.

Hi, Software updates are important to your digital safety and cyber security. The sooner you update, the sooner you'll feel confident your device is more secure — until the next update reminder.

can't believe the replies to a valid point.  Seems all these people would do very well under a communist regime.

Why is it other's business if my phone isn't safe for me?  It's my bloody choice if I don't want to upgrade.  So why am I here?  Did an update and now all of a sudden my phone is acting up.  Coincidence?  Possibly.  Or it was the update which I didn't want to begin with but the **bleep** forced itself.   So stop following the communist line that "all is good if you only follow what you're told"  If a company sells a product it should give you an option if you wish to upgrade.  Glad you offer a support for whatever period of time. Great.  But if I don't want it, it should be my bloody choice if I'm purchasing a product - unless I'm leasing it and you own my phone????

Awesome comment. I told phone to wait on stupid mandatory update and an hour later I notice it reset while lying down unused. It updated without my consent. I'm not buying another Samsung again. I think their is a manufacture unplugged I believe that sells a phone that won't sell your data. Probably doesn't force updates either. I'm checking it out for my next upgrade. GTH Samsung.
