The update seems to have broken call recording apps, but apparently can work in a system app. AFAIK call recording is legal in my jurisdiction. I can only imagine that the mobile operators don't want it because they don't want these recordings used against them.

Privacy laws are the reason why call recording apps are not likely to be legal & the only way to install a call recording app as a system app would be with Root & that's not available for North American Snapdragon devices (there's a kind of Root for the Oreo S8 series - But not sure if the Dev has continued with it...

Nothing's broken. You have software limitations imposed on you.
The feature is built in. That and many others.

That's why i won't bother with an S8, 9 or 10 brand new. With my rooted A8, i have native call recording, permanent removal off any app, (well over 100), use of built in FM tuner, camera shutter sound on/off, switch to pie/oreo in 5 minutes without getting stuck on either plus access to other ROMS that are rapidly improving (some can alreadybe used permanently and this is increasing), lots of ways to apply tweaks that aren't on non-rooted bloatships.

I would be VERY careful with call recording due to privacy, if the other party does not know the call is being recorded....it could leave you in some hefty fines...

in Canada it's 100% legal to record phone calls with or without consent under the criminal code of Canada section 183.1 https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/section-183.1.html --> 183.1 Where a private communication is originated by more than one person or is intended by the originator thereof to be received by more than one person, a consent to the interception thereof by any one of those persons is sufficient consent for the purposes of any provision of this Part... so please bring back call recording. add features don't remove features...
