Can you use the Samsung 10480713 Gear VR (2016) Headset with Samsung galaxy s8 phone?

Yes it will work. Both newer and older version of VR fits S8 perfectly. Only problem is Old VR do not have great distortion correction, which makes it little hard to use for long time.

But doesn't it need adapter because the old ones are not usb-c?

You can get the adapter changed, in fact mine comes with both the adapters.

just to be clear this is not the Gear Innovater edition correct? I have that one and it is only for the S6.

I have a Gear VR 2016 and Gear VR with Wireless Remote 2O17 edition. 2016 version doesn't work with my S8+, it doesn't have USB C and phone doesn't fit. Also, there's nothing called 'adapter'. Those are replacement parts. Anyway, 2017 version is made for S8/S8+ and works perfectly.

Where can I buy the usb-c adapter for the Samsung vr 2016 from I have only found they on ebay and local stores in Vancouver bc Canada

So I did some searching and found out that, you can buy a replacement adapter usb-c for the Samsung 10480713 Gear VR (2016), but the USB-C adapter you will need is
Samsung Gear VR3 2017 SM-R324 Type-C Adapter / Connector.
