Hey guys,

I recently got an S8+ which is a nice upgrade from my S5 Neo.

I've been trying to transfer all the data from my apps on my S5 Neo to the S8+ using Smart Switch and Google sync, but none of my apps seem to have their data restored.

Has anyone had experience with this issue or does anyone have any possible solutions? I'm assuming this is possible.

Thanks.

In my experience, this has always worked, but you do still need to sign into the apps and continue from there. Can you give examples of some apps that have not transferred properly?

Well no games have transferred any progress, but to name some: Wordscapes, Sudokyuu, Deep Town.

Any app that requires a sign in (Reddit is fun, MEGA, Discord, etc.) did not transfer any accounts, but I don't know if they're supposed to.

Even Chrome's top sites didn't sync.

The only things that seem to work are the ones that don't store data locally, which leads me to believe the app data isn't properly transferring.

I've tried restoring backups performed by Smart Switch, and not so data is restored. Something like statistics for Solitaire doesn't get backed up. One reason why rooting is useful if that you can make an image using TWRP.

I wish the backup would be like that of iTunes and an iPhone. It is pretty much a mirror image; a restore will put the machine into the exact same state as when the backup was performed, with every setting, password, and app data copied.

It's called 'smart switch', not Smart Backup. Icloud can't do what smart switch can. Also, Samsung Cloud does exactly what icloud does. You need better knowledge about which is for what, I know too many features is confusing for some people.

S5 is way too outdated phone so I don't remember much, but if you have Samsung Cloud you can try to synch both of these devices, so you get those apps data.

Thanks, but that didn't work either. I contacted Samsung and they said the only way is a third-party application.
