Galaxy SHi, we would like to tell you please follow these steps:
Tap on the conversation with the Contact for which you want to set up a custom notification tone.
Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen, then tap Notifications then Select the tone that you wish to use.

Galaxy SI have tried that. It works, but when I delete the conversation, the custom notification goes back to the default.
Is there not a way to make the custom notification permitted?

Galaxy SI use Google Messages and deleting the last text doesn't remove the custom notification for the contact.
Are you deleting All of the texts from the contact? (still should not revert back to the Default Notification).

Galaxy SI delete the whole conversation. Then the notification goes back to default.
I did update to the latest OS when I bought my phone a few days ago.
