Galaxy SI have an S23 Ultra, and recently my phone reset itself after I switched between my eSIM and physical SIM.
I frequently cross the border between the USA and Canada, so I use a physical SIM and an eSIM for both countries. This setup has worked very well for a long time. However, yesterday, after switching between the SIMs, my phone restarted and reset itself.
I lost everything on my phone, and it took me an entire day to restore my data. Is this a common issue? How can I prevent this from happening again?

Galaxy SHi Samsung_paOcMwo,
That's really unfortunate and we are very sorry to hear this issue from you. We are glad that you restored the data appreciate your efforts.
Inserting a new SIM card typically doesn't erase the data on your phone. However, if the new SIM card is from a different carrier, you may need to configure your phone's network settings.
The FRP(factory reset protection) is a built-in security feature you are able to use that protects your device and information, including screen locks and data encryptions.
The FRP is enabled automatically when a Google account has been registered on the device and will be disabled if the Google account is removed from the device prior to the Factory Data Reset. Once the FRP has been activated, it will prevent use of your device after a Factory Data Reset in an untrusted environment. This means if your device has been Factory Reset in any other way than Settings > General Management > Reset > Factory Data Reset, the FRP Lock will be enabled.
When performing a Factory Data Reset, all settings are returned to the factory default settings and all personal data is erased, including files and downloaded apps. If the Google FRP is enabled, you will need to enter your Google account credentials before you can do a factory reset on the device.
If your device has been lost or stolen, and has been Factory Data Reset in an untrusted environment, this will trigger the FRP lock.
Thank you.

Galaxy SHi Helenna,
Thank you for your reply. I have been switching between the SIM and eSIM with the exact same carrier on my phone for about a year without any issues. Normally, I just turn off my primary SIM and turn on the eSIM when switching back and forth. I don't know why it triggered a factory data reset this time when I switched the SIM. I just remember that it usually request a restart for the phone and this time it show the message unauthentic sim or environment. then my phone was factory rested.
I bought my phone brand new from Samsung.ca, and it has never been lost or stolen. I'm wondering if there's any way to prevent this from happening again. Did I do something wrong, or was it just a software glitch?
Also, regarding backups, which one do you recommend: Samsung Cloud or Google Backup? I found that even though I restored most of my data and settings, Google Backup didn't provide an exact mirror of what I had.
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,

Galaxy SI'm curious: Does any provider push an app to your phone or even change the home page in your default browser?
If so, check that provider's app permissions, I'm suspecting there may be something there.
Also, just a thought as I've never used 2 SIM cards or eSIM before, but are ...
Both numbers associated with yourself in Contacts?
When you switch, is it simply a toggle process while the current mobile line is active OR to do you enable airplane mode, then make the switch which auto disablea airplane mode?

Galaxy SHi, Day Walker:
I just simply turn off main physical sim and turn on esim when switch back and forth.
usually it will require an restart. I use esim mainly for traveling out of country data only esim. no numbers built in.
I will check my provider's app permissions. Thanks for the reply !

Galaxy SHi Samsung_paOcMwo,
Both Google and Samsung Cloud are great options to back up and restore your data.
Kindly visit the link given below and check which contents types can be backed up.

Galaxy SShame on Samsung for this and they could care less!
I just lost my entire European trip photos because of this stupid glitch!
Phones should have not stopped having memory cards or they should develop proper software!!!
