I recently travelled to Canada and have stayed mostly in Edmonton and Calagary thus far but i am extremely disppointed at being told as my devices are Australian devices (two S23 Ultra) it may not be able to get a 5g network in Canada. I just want to confirm that i do have a 5g enabled plan and the same SIMs in a pixel and Iphone (both purchased in Australia) works just fine with no issues whatsoever.

I contacted the Canadian Technical Support experts initially and they referred me to Mobile Klinik Edmonton. Mobile Klinik told me that Samsung locks there devices to country these days and I will therefore need to ask Samsung to update the phones software at their end.

I contacted Samsung Canada again only to be told that they will not assist as the phones purchased outside Canada and when i contacted the Australian Samsung I was told that no help for you as you are outside Australia?

Seriously Samsung? Are you expecting your customers not to travel or puchase a new device each time customers travel to new country?

I have used Samsung note 5, note 9, note 10, two samsung galaxy 6 watches (currently in use) and have travelled to different countries with no issues until now.

Samsung please do not try and hide behind 5g bandwith requirements in different countries as noted above the pixels and iphones do not have that issue it is only your Esteemed Company which is blocking 5g on purpose.

I have already requested Samsung Australia to lodge an official complaint, I will be escalting the matter to ACCC as well.

I spent good amounts on purchaing two S23 Ultras (Supposed Flagships) so to end this post i would like to make a point that while i have made plans to switch for my ease, I am however not goi g to leave Samsung that easy even if it means for me to hire a lawyer, going to current affairs, making noise on social media, stopping anyone and everyone i can from buying your products etc.

Ooooh.
So, is there any pending FW update or security patch pending?
No mdm profile installed (with an Orwellien 4g network restriction)? I've seen such an mdm once and was baffled and cursing at this expats phone, more than he ever did. Wrote an email to their tech department, and the following month, they removed that bizarre setting.

Other than that I cannot think what else is causing this.
Curious if using a cell site app like:
Auto Mobile Network or network cell info lite
Would help see what's baffling & wrong.

Either wag we've routed out Rogers network n Sim cards and even roaming as you're not.

Hey @kapilVirk that *** to be going through the case of the left ball not knowing what the right ball is doing!

Got a few questions:
Who's your Australian carrier?
Where both Aussie SIMs first enabled on plans for another device (u mentioned Pixel and iphone)?

Have you tried checking with home providers customer service to ensure: roaming plan supports 5G and roaming isn't restricted to specific IMEI's?
Then after confirmation changes disabled data roaming then data. Enabled Airplane mode and then enable data (w/5G) & roaming disabling Airplane mode?

T-Mobile USA WAAAAY back in 2003 launched a data plan restricted to a pool of IMEI's that only an HP iPad 6040(?) That launched and screwed up their entire data network were ONLY BlackBerry's worked completely ShizzleShow talent lol. Just checking no similar imei madness is going on with your carrier or data roaming just didn't quite trigger or register on the Samsung's.

And how would the clinic know your Sammy's are locked did you source them retail or from Australian provider? Canada literary is THE last country where phones were imei locked to carrier SIM cards lol

My Australian carrier for all my connections is Vodafone . Both my phone's were purchased separately. The phones are unlocked to be used with any carrier. In the past I have never encountered the same issue even now other devices purchased in Australia work fine.

The Mobile Klinik checked the model name and serial based on which they were able to advise that they have seen this happening to overseas Samsung devices (not country specific) and Samsung's Canadian tech support team confirmed that the devices were built by Samsung in such a way that 5 g won't work in Canada for an overseas device.

Update: Samsung Australia have been in touch. They initially requested me to post both my phones to someone in Australia who can take it to a local service centre. But as this was totally impractical/impossible Samsung Australia have escalated my concerns. So just waiting to see what assistance if any I get.

Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞

Same with my S23 Ultra from the Philippines. I tried all suggested solutions and switched to different telecom providers. Still, there is no 5G, even though the band frequency listed is also in Canada. I upgraded to an S24 Ultra here in Canada and let go of my S23 Ultra.

Samsung does have great hardware and I sincerely hope that they resolve the issue with both my phones.
On the other hand It would be curious to see if your Canadian S24 Ultra works with 5g overseas.

Not going overseas anytime soon. Now that has me curious as well.

Update: I have sent a couple of emails requesting update but same answer from Samsung that they have sent a request to headquarters and nothing further. I arrived in Canada on 27 April 2024 and raised the issue with Samsung through various channels in first week of May 2024 but no resolution. Samsung don't care 😳
