Galaxy STransferred from what device?
You can try Resetting the Network Settings & Reboot.. See if that works for you?
If not, Contact your Carrier.

Galaxy SI'm guessing that the SIM was working in the Samsung phone that they transferred from.

Galaxy SHi Georgies24fe,
We are sorry to hear this issue from you and appreciate your efforts in trying the possible troubleshooting steps.
Insert your SIM card into another phone to see if it works. If it doesn't, you may need a replacement SIM. For some carriers, the SIM card needs to be activated or registered with the new device: Contact your carrier to confirm activation. Some carriers require re-provisioning for new devices.
Thank you.
