I'm trying to figure out how to stop an app (Spotify specifically) from automatically opening after restarting my S20 (OneUI 5.1).

The issue is that Spotify ignores the micro SD card after a reboot and automatically downloads a copy of everything that's saved on it to my internal storage. Once this happens, I have to clear everything that's been downloaded (internally and to the SD card), switch the storage setting back to the SD card, and re-download all the songs, which takes hours.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling and sleeping/deep sleeping Spotify but it makes no difference.

The only thing that has worked is using Package Disabler to disable Spotify before restarting, then enabling it after but this isn't ideal.

I'm assuming that Spotify is loading before the micro SD card mounts, so if there's a way to speed up the mounting process, that'd also be helpful.

I have the S20 Ultra running One UI V5.1 as well.

I also have & use Spotify Premium.

I have my music saved to the internal storage, you may want to do the same.

My Settings in Spotify are to only Download using WiFi.

If you haven't been connected to the network for a while, Spotify will try to download (I believe that it's the verify that you have a legit Premium account).

I also have Spotify as a "Keep alive" app, as why I use "close all", I don't want Spotify to be closed, especially if I am listening to music.

The issues you are describing seems to be more of a Spotify issue, rather than a Samsung issue.

Anyway, try saving your music to the Internal storage, see if that helps.

I agree that it's a Spotify problem but from what I've seen on their forums, it's one they've been ignoring for years, so it seems unlikely that they'll fix it.

Saving internally works for smaller playlists, but not for large ones (especially if Hi Fi ever launches). Xiaomi seems to have an option to adjust an app's startup permissions, so I'm hoping there's a way to do it on Samsungs as well.

I'm not sure how many tracks I have downloaded, but I've got 46 playlists, and all are downloaded "very high" to my internal storage.

Only thing that I can think of at the moment to stop Spotify from starting on Boot, would be Spotify's Battery Settings, try changing it to "Restricted".
