For those using a Samsung device on a pay as you go carrier. For example: Public Mobile, Koodo, Lucky Mobile ect. That run off the higher end towers.

Do they get the monthly security updates or the system updates the same day as the bigger providers.

My family member just switched her S9 to a pay as you go provider who runs off the Bell Towers. So when I get my OTA updates on my Bell device for s9. Will she also get the same update on her prepaid provider?

Possibly a funny question but I cannot answer her as I've never not been on a contract based plan with my devices and she has asked me if she will get the same updates I do / will... She went from Contract with one of the big 3 to a prepaid plan. Unsure how to answer.

When searching in the search options i came across smart switch. Should I screenshot how to use it and suggest that to her instead?

Thanks for any input.

I should mention she is using a Bell device which is running on the prepaid plan now that they have requested to buy out their contract. Also the same question for her daughter who has the Samsung S7 Edge. Same type of thing but it's a unlocked Telus Device on a prepaid plan using the bell towers.

Koodo, Public are owned by Telus. Virgin, Lucky Mobile are owned by Bell. So regardless from which carrier the phone was bought, the update comes together to the subsidiaries along when their mother provider pushes it.

Answer to the second question, if she bought the phone from Bell, the updates will come as usual from Bell after paying off the tab even if she switches carriers.

Perfect. We just wanted to confirm as in the list I did not see any of the small company info for release dates and my phone pushes it when Bell provided it. I'm not overly worried about them as I know they will come. I will forward the info on in the morning and I'm sure she will be happy she isnt going to loose out completely. She was happy she switched from bell but little did she know the prepaid is also a division of bell 😂

Lol yeah, there's no running away. Carrier monopoly is at extreme in Canada, it's completely controlled by the mighty big 3: Bell, Rogers & Telus. They create multiple sub brands under them to completely control every tier of the market. And we accuse Trump of protectionism xD

Yeah updates will eventually come, no need to worry about it.
