My S6 completely crashed and a got a new S7. I can't pull anything off my old phone - it won't even power on at all and a tech destroyed it with the idea of changing the battery....
I've recovered my contacts but can't get my old text messages which I really need. I thought Google would have them or my Samsung account but I can't find them in neither. Any tips?
Maybe I had my settings set wrong and it didn't get backed up.
Any tips?
Thanks.

text are sent via your carrier so Google or your Samsung won't have a back up..
I am afraid you have lost them

actually google or samsung can back up your msgs, it just sounds like Hoppy189 didn't set it up correctly

Agree with Vanquisher and also can store your messages in sim card.

And to recover messages one has to tear down the phone and get the internal memory chip, connect to adapter reader and from there you can access it. Its in YouTube

Hey @Hoppy189, unfortunately if you did not have SMS backup enabled in your Google/Samsung accounts, there is no way to recover them after a factory reset.

To check your Samsung account for backed up data, open Settings > Accounts > Samsung > and add your Samsung account. After you're signed in, you should have a "RESTORE" option under your Settings > Backup and Reset > Samsung. If your messages aren't restored, they weren't backed up.

It's fairly simple, if there's an issue it tells you the backup has failed or if not, the backup was successful.

If it stated the backup was successful then please explain why only the sms would be restored and not a single mms
