Galaxy SI just fixed the issue on my phone without installing a new keyboard by opening up Messages, then opening up a previous conversation (as if I was going to send a new text). Then I tapped settings (the gear below the message entry box) > More typing options > Auto spacing > English (US).
Works perfectly now (at least for me). Just needed to specify the language that by default appears to be missing. See if that works.

Galaxy Stried that, along with clearing data, cache, force stopping, updating, Samsung needs to step up the game.

Galaxy SHi, I'm having the same issue with my s21. I had to change to a different keyboard which is annoying. I don't even have the Samsung keyboard in my apps and default apps. So no clue on how to clear cache 🤦♀️
Did anyone find a resolution to this? Ta

Galaxy SI think I "fixed" mine.
First I toggled off and then back on the usual settings mentioned by others here (Autospace, etc.)
But I think what really did it was the spell check. It was disabled so I enabled it and it started working right away.
If I had to guess, the logic to insert a space after a word is connected to the logic to first recognize a word, and this logic is in the spell check feature. That's my guess and I'm sticking to it.
Curious if this works for others.

Galaxy S
You can fix it. Idk exactly how I did it but I was able to finally get the Gboard option to pop up in default. Sorry I know that's not much help but I had to go through every option and agree to a few things before it did work. So go through every option in general management one by one and you will get it to work. It took me about 25 minutes. Goodluck
