Hi..hoping someone can help this non techi.
The micro sd card which works fine in my S9+ doesn't work in my new S20 ultra. It shows the files but when I click to open I'm getting a message "error the document cannot be opened because it is corrupted or damaged.

Any suggestions appreciated

What I'd do. Try a simple Reboot & check, if you're getting the same thing, if you have a micro sd card adapter, remove the sd card & test it with your computer. You should have the option to "fix" errors.

If your computer can read the sd card, I'd transfer everything to the computer & format the sd card, then copy everything back to it. Insert the sd card into your phone & check it again.

sd cards can eventually fail, so it's not a bad idea to have a spare.

Hopefully ya can resolve the problem 🤞

Also check if you have the correct type of SD Card, may be it's not compatible.

Is it possible that you encrypted your SD card with your S9?
If you put the MicroSD card into your PC, can you read the contents?
If you can read the contents on your PC, i suggest you copy everything to your PC, and use your S20 to format your SD card, then copy everything back over to your card via USB.

thks for great feedback. I can read the micro sd card on my computer. I copied it to computer and reformatted sd card and copied back to sd card. I still can't read it on s20+.

It's a Samsung 128 Evo.. maybe it's not compatible

I will try these steps again

Do you still have everything from your sd card on your computer?

If yes, try this with the sd card IN YOUR PHONE, NOT your computer.

Go to Settings > battery & device care > storage > Click on the 3 dot menu top right > click on Advanced > click on "sd card" > click on Format.

Hopefully formatting in your phone will work 🤞

Then copy everything back to the sd card & test it again.

thks RedDog...I followed those instructions and it shows gb's but can't open it. Somehow it shows a sd backup file on my internal storage on phone and it opens so thats good.

I think I'll buy a new micro sd card and try that. If it works I can delete the 9gb SD back up file and dump photos on it also

Yeah, it sounds like the sd card might be toast, but you did try scanning it with your computer & see if you could fix errors & format it in your phone > copy everything back to the sd card?
