Hi,

I want setup my own DNS server for mobile internet. I found only with hostname, but I can't use it. It is my private server with port forwarding. It is some possible way how to set DNS IP address?

Hi Startun4cz,

If you're using mobile data and want to use your own DNS server with just an IP, Android’s Private DNS feature requires a hostname and DNS-over-TLS — so IP-only setups won't work.

To make it work:

  • Set up a public hostname (e.g., with a dynamic DNS service like DuckDNS or No-IP).

  • Enable DNS-over-TLS on your DNS server, with a valid TLS certificate.

  • Enter the hostname under: Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Private DNS

If setting up DoT with a hostname isn’t an option, there's currently no native way to use a raw IP as a DNS over mobile data on Android.

Thank you.
