I have been a loyal Samsung user for almost two years now. This Black Friday, I attempted to upgrade from the S23 to the S24 Ultra and traded in my old phone. I was informed that my trade-in value would be around $405, which I agreed to. However, I did not receive the results of the trade-in for three months. After that time, I learned that my trade-in device was deemed ineligible, and I was charged an additional $800.

If I had purchased the same phone without the trade-in, it would have cost me $949, but instead, it ended up costing me around $1,300.

The most frustrating part of this situation is that the reason given for the ineligibility was that my phone did not power on. However, when I received my phone back, I was able to turn it on easily—it was simply discharged. How are they inspecting these phones? Couldn't they have charged it to check if it worked properly?

To make matters worse, I sent my phone back in mint condition, using the original S23 Ultra box. It was quite unprofessional of Samsung to return the phone to me wrapped in plastic with air cushions. This has further diminished its value. My entire family uses Samsung products, but this experience has caused us to re-evaluate our loyalty.

I urge others to be cautious about trade-ins and to shop wisely—don’t fall into this trap.

If I get rid of a previous device I always sell it privately.

I turned down an offer of $875 for my S23 Ultra 512 Gig device.

I sent my S8 and they gave me 550 + 10$. Fedex delivered it already on Wednesday. They are better not telling me stupid reason like that. Still not appearing as delivered with Samsung link

It depends on the device. I was given $1120 for my 512GB s24 ultra which in my opinion is a good deal. Then again my phone was in perfect condition. But yeah for trade ins i always make sure my device is charged to at least 70%

Sorry for what happened to you...if they have rejected the trade in for phone not powering up...that's the worse of samsung may be they have to go back to the board and re write their device inspection manual...I would suggest (if you have already if not) to live record the trading in phone and packing at the Drop of location....this is only proof you would have in case of such situations...I do the same for all my trade In's...

Hi Nabs26,

That sounds like an incredibly frustrating experience, and we sincerely regret any frustration this has caused. We understand how important a smooth trade-in process is, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

We appreciate your patience and value your feedback as we work to improve our trade-in process.
