Just updated my S6 ... don't like it and won't update again. background colors gone and not many options in text messaging app. Any idea how I can get more text message background and colors for the bubbles? Had them before but they are gone now with update.

Samsung doesn't want you to customize the messages app....

You can download a new theme at the Play Store (some are FREE and some are not) and that will give you some options.

Does that enable me to change the background in text messaging? Like the color of the message bubbles, etc?

Some of the themes do and some don't... try then and see ..
if you don't like them uninstall them and try something else. I tried I think 10 before I found one I liked lol... Check the pictures (screen shots) they have with each theme before you download it to see the icons and changes! Hope that helps ☺

what helped me is that you go the settings icon "here" and turn wifi off and on. i tried it in 2 other areas and it didn't work. Turning it off and on here worked.

search background images on Google and screenshot, then crop and save the ones you like . when in message you can choose from your images for background. don't bother downloading some app. I haven't found a way to change the bubbles yet.
this update sucks big time for many reasons.
